Well, you did it, you saved Fred.
Reflect on what it felt like to do a constructivist activity and how your learning style (turtle, lion, etc.) affected group dynamics. How do you think your students' different styles will impact these types of activities? Click on "Comments" at the bottom of this post to add your comment.

Saving Fred, "as a puppy" seemed relatively easy compared to the task. I felt as though the group worked well together, listened to other ideas, and there was no dominate force (like a lion) in the group. We worked fast and efficient.
I think this activity, depending on the learning styles could be interesting - like all lions in a group might be frustrated - it could actually take them longer. The turtles might have left Fred long enough to die from starvation before he would have actually drown.
Sorry Martha - don't take offense to the turtle comment!
I feel that a group of puppies worked well, however a mix or group of others would have been different. I liked saving fred. It was nice to think about something that was different then "normal life". I am not sure that my students would have had such and easy time. Having students work together is harder. Probably because they are not as mature. Kinda

It meant having to think of different ways to attack the problem. Had to be more creative. All being puppies we looked at the problem from the same direction. Students' styles would be kind of neat if they were grouped with different styles in the same group. It would give them a chance to see the difficulties of working with a variety of learning styles. It might even give them some insight as to what teachers have to deal with when designing lessons that meet the needs of a variety of students. It would definitely be easier to design this type of lesson if you knew the learning styles of your class.
We saved Fred as a lion and a cat. My lion partner charged ahead with her ideas, and I held dear Fred as she worked her magic on the lifesaver. I learned more about problem solving with various learner types. It would be helpful for a variety of grouping activities in a classroom.
Today's workshop was very informative in learning about the constructive approach. I had learned about it in the past, but obviously it was not as memorable as today's hands-on activities. I really like the Save Freddy activity. This was fun and I learned information I can incorporate into my classroom and teaching strategies. I am looking forward to the January workshop. I also really appreciate all the treats too. The laughs are therapeutic as well!
The constructionist activity, "saving Fred" was exciting. I couldn't wait to save Fred. Maybe I'm a little bit like a lion, because I really wanted to save Fred first! I think I have a variety of different learners in my classes and this activity would show them that they all learn differently. I think they would really enjoy these activities.
Rock on Martha!!
As a puppy, I was very excited to save Fred. I felt comfortable with my partner and we worked well together applying the life jacket. Version B of "Saving Fred" was an excitement killer and was not as much fun. Figuring things out on my own was more fun than reading directions, this is something I'll keep in mind when planning. And I think students would have fun with this too!
